To spread the joy, creativity, athleticism and passion that is brought about through salsa dancing and grow a stronger community through dance
I grew up in Maine. I began dancing ballroom in 1997 and discovered salsa shortly thereafter. I owe my introduction to salsa to Seemore Johnson of Costa Rica who is now part of the Hips on Fire Team (formerly of Boston, MA; now in Barcelona Spain)
I have been teaching for 10 years, and have attended Salsa Congresses in Boston, New York, and Connecticut. When I travel, I make it a point to check out the local clubs. To date I have been salsa dancing in:
My teaching is "on 1" but I dance on both "1" and "2" (for those new to salsa - the basic footwork is slightly different between the 2 styles).
I teach because I love the dance! You will not find me in the classroom alone. I still go out social dancing regularly in Portland and Boston.
For some, dance comes naturally while others have to work at it. But anyone who wants to learn has the ability to do so. I believe that everyone has something to bring to the table.
The best part of salsa dancing is in seeing people come together in a positive, healthy environment while celebrating people's individuality. My goal is to provide people with the foundation and tools for them to build on their own individual style. My classes are fun and welcoming for all.
